Dry Needling (Anatomical Acupuncture)
- A procedure where a very fine (0.25mm) needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point (knotted muscle).
- Putting a needle into a trigger point can cause a tight muscle to relax (as previously demonstrated on an electromyogram)
- Emerging evidence is showing that dry needling can inhibit the transmission of pain signals from a dysfunctional muscle up to the brain.
